domain renewal not a full year

  hello
  I just renewed my domain today Jan 15. it expired Feb. 3. Once the payment was processed it showed me a new expiry of Jan 3, 2017. A whole month shorter than the 1 year term. Please help me understand why it took away 1 month. It should be Feb. 3. thank you.

  Also, i wanted to change my domain to honeyandhorizons.com I tried to add a new domain but it wouldn’t allow me. I keep getting errors.
