Domain renewal – trying to charge me a premium fee, total rort

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi forum, I’m trying to renew my domain and can’t seem to. It has expired. I’ve then purchased a new domain – with one letter changed via go daddy. About 2 hours ago, mapping a new external domain was being advertised to me as $17.99 and now its trying to charge me a premium monthly fee to do it?! What gives? I’m fully prepared to change to squarespace, – this seems like a total rort.

    Any advice, please help

  • Hi @catsi, in the past year we’ve started only offering domains with plans: you can add more domains for $13/year (mapping) however you need a plan to begin with.

The exception is if you already had a domain, we grandfather you in. If you got rid of the domain, that’s likely what caused your exception to end.

Also it looks like your domain is in redemption right now. It is possible to get it back, but our registrar charges us a late fee.

    Hi Supernovia,

I’d like to get the domain back, even if it means a late fee charge – is that possible?

    Thanks,

    Catherine

  • Hi there,

I’ll be happy to contact the registrar to see if we can restore catherinesimpsondesign.com to your account, but I cannot guarantee that we will be able to get the domain back. If I am successful, I can send you a manual payment request form for you to repurchase the domain.

I will let you know once I hear back from the registrar.

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

That would be great, – thanks very much!

  • You’re welcome! I’ll touch base soon.

    Thanks,

  • Hi there,

I was able to retrieve catherinesimpsondesign.com and reactivate it under your account!

I have sent you the manual payment for the fee, so please pay that when you get the opportunity. Please ignore the first payment request for the domain – that is covered in the Personal Plan that you purchased.

Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!
