  I’m trying to practice setting up a simple webpage but do not want to connect it to a domain yet. I can’t continue past the screen asking me to either buy and new domain or map to an existing.

  Hi there,

  That is not an issue – what you could do is create and a site on WordPress.com. You are assigned a .wordpress.com or a .home.blog subdomain whenever you create a site with WordPress.com, so you can just use that as the domain as you build the site and determine whether or not this is the platform you want to use. Once you are developing the site, you can make the decision to transfer the domain over or register a new one:
