Domain selection

Whats the difference between transferring domain to wordpress vs mapping domain?

If you transfer the domain to WordPress.com, WordPress.com will manage the domain. You’ll manage all aspects of your domain at WordPress.com, including renewal, cancellation, or a future transfer and DNS management.

But, if you keep the domain at your current host and map the domain to WordPress.com, domain will point to WordPress.com, however, your current domain provider will continue to manage the domain and you’ll need to pay them for renewal.

My domain is currently hosted by a local hosting provider on cpanel where i manage everything including emails. If i transfer my domain to wordpress, how will i manage my emails?
I am a newbie, so please bear with me.

  • Hi there,

Are you planning to switch your hosting to us as well? If not, there’s no reason why you’d need to either transfer or map your domain to us.

That said, whether you transfer or whether you map, you can add whatever MX and other DNS records your email requires to work on our end, and once you switch the domain’s name servers to us, those records will become active instead of the ones currently set at your current host/domain provider.

    Add Email to Your Domain

We don’t provide email hosting, so your email service itself will have to remain at the current provider.
