domain set up

  • Unknown's avatar

    Dear WordPress,

My name is Frances Sodergren and I purchased the following domain:
    http://www.daytodaymatters from you.

    I have built a site on Wix.com.

As they are not a domain name host, please set up my domain with the following records:

    For < daytodaymatters.com >, create an A record that points to: < 23.236.62.147 >

    For < http://www.daytodaymatters.com >, create a CNAME record that points to: < www117.wixdns.net >

    For < m.daytodaymatters.com >, create a CNAME record that points to: < www117.wixdns.net >
Please connect my domain to the following DNS (name servers):
    NS10.WIXDNS.NET
    NS11.WIXDNS.NET

    Thank you,
    Frances Sodergren

PS: I am not asking for a domain name transfer/redirect.
I want to remain with you as my domain name host.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hello Frances,

You can add these custom records (A, CNAME, nameservers) yourself too, here’s a detailed guide on how to do it.

However, I’m tagging this thread for Staff attention as well so if you’re not able to do it, they’ll be here for assistance.

    Hi Frances,

If you’d like to make changes to your domain’s settings, you are welcome to change your domain’s name servers or set up Custom DNS.

I can also help you make those changes on your domain. However, I want to clarify your request before making any changes:

When you change your domain’s name servers, no other DNS records that you enter here at WordPress.com (such as the A and CNAME records you requested) will have any effect. You will have to make those changes directly at Wix. Do you want me to help you change your domain’s name servers so you can manage those other settings directly with Wix?

Thank you for the quick response to my question.
Utilizing the links for information I was able to make the changes myself.
It was not as difficult as I thought– it’s in knowing where to go to insert the info given that I was having issues with.
    Thanks

  • As Rachel said, changing nameservers would mean you will not be able to edit other DNS records at WordPress, like A and CNAME. (overlooked that! my bad.)

    You mentioned:

Please connect my domain to the following DNS (name servers):
    NS10.WIXDNS.NET
    NS11.WIXDNS.NET

If this change is applied, A and CNAME record would have to be edited at Wix’s DNS record editor. Please clarify this.

Also I don’t see the A/CNAME records updated yet, if you just edited them it might take a while before they’re reflected worldwide. Though Rachel would be able to have a look at your settings.

    ehtis,
I really appreciate your interest – What I did is follow the email that was sent to my by WIX which was the initial comment I made.
Personally this is all greek to me and did enter the information in WP and just now went in and the info did not show. I must have not saved or something.
I reentered the info and on each page first Edit DNS, saved then Name Servers, saved. I received success on both pages, so now I will wait – up to 72 hours to insure that the change has taken place. If not, then I’ll need additional help.

  • Frances,

I see the records are now updated. :)

Your new website is also opening fine.

  • If you did change (and saved) the name servers to:

    NS10.WIXDNS.NET
    NS11.WIXDNS.NET

It will be up to Wix to make sure your website is opening fine, and to handle the other DNS records. That was the only confusion in my mind.

    ehtis,
I have not been able to access my website.
    How did you?
I used internet explorer and chrome.

  • I was able to open the site at that time, here’s a screenshot:

Apparently the records are not fully propagated yet, as different DNS servers are returning different results. That could be the reason why you were not able to open it.

Were the records changed again? We should wait and let it fully propagate.

    Hi Frances,

It can take up to 72 hours for domain changes like this to take effect everywhere. It generally takes the longest on computers where you accessed your site before making the change, so it may take more time for you to see that change on your end.

If that isn’t resolved after a bit of a wait, you can also contact Wix support to confirm that your domain is set up correctly to work with your site there.

Please let me know if I can do anything more to help. :)
