Domain set-up problem

  • Unknown's avatar

I appear to be going round in circles setting up my WordPress.com Premium annual subscription @ £7.08GBP x 12 months – a total of £85.00.

In my cart it shows my domain .wordpress.com (previously purchased via GoDaddy.com)

I do not want my domain to include ‘wordpress.com’ and I was under the impression the the ‘Premium’ account removed this and just left the domain I own?

    Can somebody advise please?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi meateater567,

    Just to clarify…

Do you have a Premium Plan?
Do you own your own Domain name that you wish to map to your WordPress.com account?

    thanks

  • Hi there,

All WordPress.com sites start with a *.wordpress.com domain. That domain is how your site is identified in our system and it cannot exist without that domain.

When you add a paid plan, you are then able to register or map a custom domain. You do that by going to My Site ->Domains ->Add. The new domain is then laid over the free address, like putting a dust-jacket on a book.

You can find instructions how to add domain mapping once you’ve bought your plan here:

Use a Domain You Already Own (Domain Mapping)
