Domain still listed as registered

    Hi there!
    I registered a domain with WordPress a few days ago, and I subsequently realized I will not be using WordPress to host my site. I cancelled my subscription and domain purchase, and received a refund, but the domain name I purchased is still showing as ‘taken’ on other platforms. Is there a waiting period for it to become available again?

    Hi Sol Chase,

    When you canceled your subscription on WordPress.com, you’re giving up your domain ownership at the same time. There’s no guarantee if you’re able to register it and might not be able to get it back.

    I’ve also added a modlook tag to see if Staff can assist you.

    Hi there,

    You should never cancel a domain if you plan on using it somewhere else. You should have transferred the domain instead.

    Please note that the domain will be released after 5 days and will be available for anyone to register again.
