Domain still pointing to WordPress after cancelling
-
My domain, purchased through a third party (bluehost), used to be configured to wordpress.com dns severs. Yesterday I changed the setting for my domain to use a third party DNS server so that I could use it with tumblr. This morning my domain variancelog.com was resolving correctly to tumblr, however now it is resolving to a wordpress.com error page and I don’t know why. My settings at bluehost and my DNS server and tumblr are all correct!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I disconnected my domain from tumblr so that at least the regular tumblr address works. Now the domain times out without pointing anywhere. I am trying now to point to another IP address for testing, so I’ll see what happens once the new IP address kicks in…

It’s still pointing to this error message: “Warning! Domain mapping upgrade for this domain not found. Please log in and go to the Domains Upgrades page of your blog to use this domain.”
I cancelled the domain setting in wordpress, removed the site associations, and even deleted the original blog (which I probably shouldn’t have done) which was variancelog.wordpress.com. Hope this can be resolved!

It’s changing back and forth from routing to 192.0.78.25 (the wordpress error page) and 74.220.199.6 and timing out, depending on when I ping the domain.

Hi @variancelog
It’s changing back and forth
No worries, that’s pretty normal if you’ve just adjusted the domain’s DNS settings. You’ll want to wait several hours for the old settings to flush out of your computer, your router, your internet provider’s computers, etc.
Typical propagation time is around 4-6 hours, but it can take up to 48 hours depending on everyone’s settings.

Actually monitoring it may make it a bit worse. Give it 4-6 hors before trying again so the old settings can flush out.

After switching back and forth for awhile things stabilized, just as you said. Thanks again for your help!
