Domain stuck in limbo

I bought my domain on wordpress.com, then asked for a refund because I wanted to work from wordpress.org. Now Bluehost, wordpress.org and Automattic Inc can’t help me. I need my domain back!

After looking things over on the account I can see that wafflestowasabi.com should be released for registration again, as new, 5 days from 14th January when it was cancelled. We don’t have any control over the timing. If you’re not able to register the domain as new on the 19th please write back.

Hi, thanks. I’m a bit concerned still about the message I get inside Bluehost: The domain wafflestowasabi.com was registered within the past five days with another registrar (Automattic Inc.). You will need to wait 60 days before trying to transfer. Some registrars allow deleting the domain within 5 days of signup. If the losing registrar supports this, you may be able to delete the domain and signup for the domain here immediately.
So will I be able to buy the domain back in a few days and then will I be able to transfer it to wordpress.org and bluehost?
Is it easier to restore the domain I asked to be refunded, then transfer? Thanks!

The message they are showing on their end sounds like a generic message, so in this case it is a little misleading, but I can understand your confusion.
I have checked on your domain wafflestowasabi.com once again and I can confirm that it was cancelled on 1/14 and should once again go on sale again (anywhere domains are sold to the public) on or around 1/19
You will likely be able to purchase the domain from Bluehost around that time, so mark it on your calendar. Hope this helps!

Hello, I see my domain is available to buy on WordPress.com but not on Bluehost (it says taken). Just want to ensure if I buy it with wordpress.com I CAN transfer it to Bluehost, and edit in wordpress.org

The short answer is “no, you will not be able to transfer it [anytime soon] if you buy it from WordPress.com.”
When you purchase a new domain, if you cancel it within the first 5 days you can repurchase it from anywhere 5 days from when you cancelled it. (This is your situation currently.)
However, if you do not cancel the domain within the first 5 days you purchased it, a “60-day lock” is placed on the domain which prevents transferring the domain for 60 days.
Since you cancelled within 5 days of purchasing the domain, and, since your intention is to own the domain through Bluehost and manage a WordPress.org site, your best solution here is to wait until the 19th and purchase the domain again through Bluehost.
Alternatively, if you purchased the domain through WordPress.com, you would indeed own the domain, but you would need to wait 60 days before you could transfer it to Bluehost.

Ok, I think I get it. Bluehost is still saying it is unavailable to buy because WordPress.com owns it. It has been 5.5 days. Hopefully tomorrow it will be available on Bluehost to purchase. Thanks.

I’ve checked the timeline on my end (it’s not quite 5 days yet from what I can see) and I suspect the domain will be available in the next 24-48 hours.
