Domain switched to wordpress.com

For some reason when I was resolving some errors today on my website which is hosted through Bluehost, it changed my domain name to ethanboonevisual.wordspace.com instead of ethanboonevisual.com. I have no clue why it did it but it will not let me change it back. I just got my site recently and am not very familiar with how it works so any help would be great.

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there!

I think there’s some confusion about your site here. I’d love to help clear that up!

Your site at ethanboonevisual.com is a WordPress.org site hosted by Bluehost. It’s completely separate/different from your WordPress.com site, which is located at https://ethanboonevisual.wordpress.com. So your site didn’t change its name from ethanboonevisual.com to https://ethanboonevisual.wordpress.com. You have two sites hosted on two different platforms.

A WordPress site hosted on other platforms like Bluehost is called a self-hosted WordPress.org site. We, on the other hand, host WordPress.com sites. There are some differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org. If you aren’t sure about them, please check the following page that explains it well: WordPress.com vs WordPress.org.

I see that you’re yet to start working on your Bluehost site. You’ll want to first decide where you’d like to host your site: With Bluehost or us at WordPress.com.

I strongly recommend checking out this overview, but generally speaking, you’re more responsible for the technical side of things when using WordPress.org. So things like backups, security, performance (based on the hosting plan you chose), installing regular updates, etc., all become your responsibility.

On WordPress.com, we take care of the majority of the technical side of things. We have blazing-fast hosting, unlimited bandwidth on all plans, strong security, unmatched spam filtering, and world-class support. You can get access to 24/7 live chat support with our Business plan, for example.

I’d also like to clarify that hosting your site on WordPress.com doesn’t mean your site will always have .wordpress.com in the end. When you’ve purchased the right WordPress.com plan for your site, and added and configured the domain, your WordPress.com site will load at ethanboonevisual.com. It will not show the WordPress.com address to your visitors. It shows that now because your WordPress.com site is on the free plan now.

If you’re still deciding, we’d love to help! Please feel free to tell us more about your site goals. What’s the site for, and what features do you need on your site? We can help you choose the right plan for you if you’d like to get started with WordPress.com.
