  Hi,
  Can I make a website on a free domain for now and then transfer my domain onto it? I do not want me website to be down for any amount of time, as it is already live on another host.

  Yes, of course, you can work on your site using the free WordPress.com subdomain and only map or transfer your custom domain once you’re ready to publish the new site:
