Domain Transfer

  I am making a website for someone who has an existing domain on wordpress, and they want to keep the same domain and hosting. How do I make a brand new site on my account and then transfer their existing domain and hosting to the website I created

  Hi there,

  What is the URL of the existing site?

  If they want to keep their current hosting, you can’t make the site with us (assuming we’re not the host of the current site).

  WordPress.com is a hosting provider, and not the same thing as the open source WordPress software I assume the current site is made with. It’s not possible to build a site on WordPress.com, and then just upload it to hosting elsewhere.

  What you want to do instead is to create the new site locally on your computer using software like MAMP. Then once you’re ready you can upload that site to your client’s hosting provider’s servers via FTP.
