Domain Transfer

  Hi, I am helping a friend to build a site. He signed up for Square and I recommended switch to WordPress ;) He bought the domain with them. Can this be transferred quickly and is the a cost? Or else he might was well keep hosting it there.

  If he *just* bought the domain from them, he won’t be able to transfer yet, since there is a 60 day lock on new domains. He could check with them to see how long they take to release it after cancellation, or he could simply map here for now:

  http://wordpress.com/support/domains/map-existing-domain/

  And then transfer when the time comes.

  I want to say if you get a year-long plan, the domain transfer is free with the first year. He’d just use it when he’s ready.

  A transfer adds a year to the registration / renewal, so it costs the same as that. Here’s the pricing:
