  I would like to decide whether or not to move my domain name after setting up my word press website.

  It’s possible to create a site here at WordPress.com – using a default domain (example.WordPress.com) and then transfer the domain when the site is ready.

  Also, in case you are curious about the differences between mapping and transferring…

  Functionally, it really makes no difference. Both work equally well and will send users to your site when they enter your domain into their browser.

  What it really comes down to is if you have opinions on the ease of keeping your site billing in one place (one bill from WordPress.com vs a bill from WordPress.com and a bill from your domain registrar). Or if you have a particular reason to want to use an external registrar (perhaps you have many domains and want to keep them all registered in the same place).
