Domain Transfer

    What are the benefits of WordPress owning my domain? Currently it falls under GoDaddy but I really don’t know much about the importance of who carries the domain.

    Hi @artbyav, it really doesn’t matter which registrar you use, only that you keep the domain renewed for as long as you want to keep it. If you let it expire, the process for getting it back can be costly and sometimes even impossible.

    For that reason, it can be a lot easier to keep your domain and hosting plan together, so you only have to remember to pay one provider and mind one set of renewals. Also, if you transfer the domain to us with your plan purchase, we do add one year to the domain registration as part of the transfer process — and that’s free with the plan.

    If you’re still not sure, I’d recommend mapping the domain for now, then transferring it later if you’d like, since mapping is the easier of the two options.
