  I just understood that I was not buying a domain from wp but just paying for a transfer that something i dont own.

  When you transfer a domain to WordPress.com, you’re moving it from your previous registrar to us, meaning we’ll manage your domain registration, billing, and DNS going forward. The transfer fee you paid isn’t just for the process—it covers one full year of domain registration, and your next billing will happen after a year.

  Also, all of our annual hosting plans come with a free domain for the first year. If you had chosen an annual plan, your domain transfer could’ve been covered under that. If you didn’t purchase an annual plan, then the transfer cost simply reflects the regular renewal cost of the domain.
