Domain Transfer

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello-
I currently own this domain (fiction-non-fiction.com), but I purchased it through Weebly. Since I started to develop my WordPress site, I decided to re-direct my domain to use my WordPress site. Now, I am trying to make an email address that is custom to my domain, like @fiction-non-fiction.com. My first question is, how do I do that if my domain is run through Weebly?
Second, is there a way to transfer the domain over so I don’t have to deal with Weebly anymore?
If I cancel my domain with Weebly, would I be able to claim it immediately through WordPress?
    Thanks!
    Joe

    Hi Joe,

Now, I am trying to make an email address that is custom to my domain, like @fiction-non-fiction.com. My first question is, how do I do that if my domain is run through Weebly?

Since your domain is mapped to WordPress.com, you can use our Email Forwarding service or Add Email from a another email service to your domain. (It doesn’t matter that the domain is registered somewhere else — since it’s pointed to your WordPress.com site you can set up the email service on this end.)

Second, is there a way to transfer the domain over so I don’t have to deal with Weebly anymore?

WordPress.com doesn’t support incoming domain transfers, so you won’t be able to transfer your domain’s registration to WordPress.com. However, if you don’t want to deal with Weebly anymore, you can transfer your domain to any other domain registrar — there’s a list of other common registrars on our support page about how to Use a Domain You Already Own (Domain Mapping).

If I cancel my domain with Weebly, would I be able to claim it immediately through WordPress?

I really, really don’t recommend doing that. Any time you cancel a domain that’s registered somewhere, that domain will go through a domain expiration process that can take a while and there’s a chance you won’t be able to get the domain back somewhere else. So instead of canceling it and trying to re-register it here, I’d recommend keeping it with Weebly or trying out a different domain registrar.

Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)
