Domain Transfer

  Hi there, I’m trying to transfer my domain to square space (i.e.: no longer use WordPress and use my domain name on WP as my domain name at my Squarespace blog). I have tried to transfer and got as far as the ‘Big Important Warning’, then I entered in my email address of the ‘user to receive the blog’ and it came back with: ‘You cannot transfer to that user.’ Can you help me understand what I need to do to correct this issue?

  Hi MM,

  There are currently no custom domains owned by the account you are logged in to. Can you confirm which domain you would like to transfer to Squarespace?

  Are you trying to transfer ownership of elrincondepity.wordpress.com to another WordPress.com user? Which user do you want to transfer ownership of the site to?

  Hi Gemma! I am trying to transfer http://www.meredithmayo.com to my square space account. I haven’t heard of the other site you mentioned. I am transferring to myself- I use Squarespace instead of WordPress now and want to change my Squarespace domain name to http://www.meredithmayo.com if that makes sense.

  Hi Meredith,

  I am trying to transfer http://www.meredithmayo.com to my square space account.

  The domain meredithmayo.com was registered through WordPress.com but expired in 2015. It was then released and reregistered through NameBright.com. Did you register the domain through that company?

  I haven’t heard of the other site you mentioned.

  Humm, that’s strange. The URL I mentioned was displayed as the site you needed help with — thanks for confirming though!

  Hi there! I did not register through Name Bright….how do I reclaim it? Or is it too late at this point? And how do I delete my Word Press account?

  Hi Meredith,

  The WHOIS information for meredithmayo.com shows where the domain is currently registered:

  https://whois.icann.org/en/lookup?name=meredithmayo.com

  If you didn’t register the domain through namebright.com, it is now owned by someone else. We are able to help with the recovery of expired domains but we have no control over them once they have been released.

  The WHOIS information I linked to above shows the contact details for the current owner, if you wish to contact them.

  And how do I delete my Word Press account?

  Your account can be deactivated using these steps:

  https://en.support.wordpress.com/deleting-accounts/

  You are the owner of meredithmayo.wordpress.com — this site will need to be transferred to another account or deleted before your account can be deactivated. Deleting a site is permanent and cannot be reversed. Therefore, we only recommend deleting meredithmayo.wordpress.com if you won’t need to use that site again in the future.
