  I already have a domain registered and need to build a website page? Should I transfer my domain?

  Hi there, if you want your new domain name to point to greycellsweb.wordpress.com on WordPress.com you would have to have an upgraded plan. You can then map your domain to WordPress.com.

  If however you want to run the self-hosted version of WordPress.org you could ask your hosting provider to help you set it up. If you are unclear about the two versions you can catch up here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

  Hi there,

  Whether you map or transfer is entirely up to you. Either option will cause your WordPress.com site to appear at your custom domain, with the only real difference being whether you pay us for the domain’s renewal each year vs your current domain provider.

  
  @zazter, please make sure you answer the question, rather than just responding with a pre-written reply that does not actually address it. The OP is asking which is better – mapping a domain to us or transferring it. They’re not asking about WordPress.com hosting vs hosting elsewhere, and providing that information when it has no relevance to the question just creates unnecessary confusion :)
