  I would like to design a website with WordPress just to try it and see if I would like it. I already have a domain name. I do not want to pay right now but I will later. also transferring the domain name at that time. is that possible?

  Yes, you can start creating your website here using a free WordPress.com domain and whenever you feel ready you can transfer or map your domain to your WordPress.com website.
