  Hi, I am currently running my blog through squarespace. I do not want to transfer the domain without the site being fully ready on wordpress. Is it possible to create the website on wordpress and add the domain when it is complete?

  Of course! You can start designing your website here at WordPress.com, once you finish it, you can upgrade your plan and transfer your domain because domain mapping or transfer is available only with the paid plans.
