Hi – we have a website with another host and already have a domain. If I transfer domains able to work on building the new website with wordpress but still keep the old website live until the new one is completed?

That is easily possible. You don’t need to transfer your domain in the starting. You can start creating your site with WordPress.com even if you need any paid plans to get the paid features you can easily buy that plan. Each plan comes up with a domain credit feature where in you can either register a new domain for your site or you can use your existing domain.

– You can connect your previous domain with WordPress in two ways
1. Transferring your domain to WordPress.com – Here you will be transferring the domain to WordPress.com i.e from that time all the renewal and dns setting for domain will be taken care by WordPress.com not by the registrar you are having now.

Thanks for your reply – so just to clarify I don’t need to transfer the domain straight away I can just advise what the domain name is and proceed with building the site?

Yes, You can proceed with building the site. Once you are done you can either map or transfer your domain to your site.
