after transferring my domain to wp will my site still be live while i create more pages on wp

  • Hi there,

When you transfer a domain to us, we don’t touch the DNS, so if you currently have a site on the domain, it should continue working as before.

The domain will only switch from showing your current site to showing your WordPress.com site when you explicitly change the name servers to point the domain to us instead.

Thank you so much for the reply. What I want to know is I currently have a live fashion site created by me using GoDaddy template and hosted by GoDaddy. I would like to create my fashion coaching site using WP but during the time that I’m creating the WP site I would like my current site to be live just as it is. So my question is which option should I choose transfer or map my domain registrar? I’m confused please help!

  • Whether you transfer or map depends completely on you. When your site with us is ready, do you prefer to manage your domain, i.e. pay us for renewing it each year, going forward? Then you transfer.

Or do you prefer to keep the domain and site separate, paying us for the site and GoDaddy for the domain? Then you map.

Either way, once you point the domain’s name servers to us, the domain will show your WordPress.com site. And regardless which option you choose, you’ll switch the domain to us as the last step, only when you’re ready to take the GoDaddy site offline to show the WordPress.com site at the domain instead.
