Domain Transfer

  I think I am caught in the middle. I can’t manage my site from anywhere and I am afraid to lose the content and photo’s along with the theme, which is one of yours. I have another site with you and I suppose Go Daddy. I would like to bring all to you, you are the only that helps with anything they are nothing more than a bank, I can’t even use thier email. Hel[p transfer Homeless Chronicle so I can manage it right away. Best method. I would be happy to pay a small amount for someone to take over the transfer project and make sure nothing is lost. This is a non profit site trying to benefit the homeless community. thanks. (email visible only to moderators and staff)

  Hi there,

  So just to clarify, you have a domain at GoDaddy that you want to transfer to us, but you also currently have an existing site on that domain, and the content also needs to be transferred?

  The site with GoDaddy would be using the open source WordPress software found on WordPress.org, and doesn’t have anything to do with us – we have no control over or access to that site, so no way to directly help you migrate your content from there. So you’ll have to do that yourself, but we can help you through the steps.

  First, go to WP-Admin on that site, and go to Tools ->Export. There you can get a WordPress export file of all your content on that site.

  Next, go to your site on WordPress.com, and go to My Site ->Tools ->Import. Follow the steps there to upload the file you got from your other site:

  Import a Website

  This will import all your posts and pages, and it should pull over your media files as well. Your theme and settings will not be transferred, though, so you’ll have to set the WordPress.com site back up the way you want it on this end.

  Once you’re sure all your posts and images have made it across to us, it would be safe to move your domain to us. This will require that you upgrade to our Personal Plan or higher. You can find detailed instructions for transferring your domain here:
