Domain Transfer

    Howdy
I currently have my WordPress website registered and hosted by Netregistry here in Australia but our eCommerce store is almost exclusively aimed at the US market.
I want to transfer my domain registration and my ecommerce website to WordPress.com.
I need to understand the cost implications in detail. What does the eCommerce Plan include, specifically in terms of SSL and domain registration?
Also, a key metric for me is speed/responsiveness – the cloud hosting I’m on is very, very slow!
I am keen to hear back as soon as possible so I can make the right business decisions.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Grant,

I want to transfer my domain registration and my ecommerce website to WordPress.com.

We have some documentation which explains how to move a self hosted site over to WordPress.com:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-from-self-hosted-wordpress-to-wordpress-com/view-all/

The existing domain can be mapped or transferred to WordPress.com. Transferring will be the better option if you would prefer to manage the site and domain through one account.

What does the eCommerce Plan include, specifically in terms of SSL and domain registration?

This overview of the eCommerce plan may be useful if you need more information about the features it includes:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/ecommerce-plan/

We automatically install SSL certificates on all WordPress.com sites (including those using mapped domains), so that isn’t something you would need to set up manually:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/https-ssl/

Our paid plans include a domain credit which would cover the cost of transferring or mapping your domain to WordPress.com.

a key metric for me is speed/responsiveness – the cloud hosting I’m on is very, very slow!

We use a CDN and caching to help speed up WordPress.com sites. One thing you could do is create a free site and run a speed test to see what the overall performance is like.

Come back to me if there is anything else you would like to know :)
