Domain transfer
-
I have a custom domain that I unlocked from its previous registrar. I would like to use it on WordPress (NOT mapped from the other registrar). All I can find in the support articles is information on transferring WordPress-registered domains to other sites. How do I transfer a domain TO WordPress?
Thank you.

You will need to map your domain name using the instructions below

@timethief, I missed that paragraph. Thank you for pointing it out.
@auxclass, I would rather not map my domain. I’d like to completely free it from the previous registrar, not pay both the registrar and WordPress to use it. I’m looking into canceling or hoping I can find a different domain I don’t mind switching to.
Thank you both for your help.

The $ 13.– that Domain Mapping costs per year is in addition to the registration fee – if you had your domain registered here you would have an additional charge of $ 5.– / year for registration
You don’t pay double when you do domain mapping –
Have you looked at transferring to a different Registrar? There are many out there – some friends use Name Cheap – there are others that are also low cost
We always recommend against letting a domain name expire and try and catch it after 60 to 90 days when it reverts to the wild – there is a whole industry that grabs expired domain names and holds them for ransom – and your domain name does not work for many weeks
Good luck

@auxclass, I hoped to transfer it to WordPress as the registrar. I am aware that I would have to pay for the privilege, but I considered it worth it if I was only paying one company instead of two (which, if mapped, would be WordPress for mapping and the registrar for owning).
I’m looking into my options now. I’d rather not lose the domain, which I finally got streamlined to match most of my services, but I also don’t want to map it. We’ll see.
Thanks.
