Domain transfer and links

We have marketing email links to ‘mysite.wordpress.com’ which is working fine. If we transfer the domain name registration to wordpress, will these links still work. The concern is that there is a processing window where the change is occurring and we don’t want our audience to lose the connection to ‘mysite.wordpress.com’ – I suppose we can update the email links once it is official but we have existing campaigns that are ongoing.

  • Hi there,

I’m not sure I fully understood your question, so let me echo that back and see if we are on the same page. You are asking what happens if you change the URL of your site (currently using it’s “wordpress.com” address) to a custom address, yes? And your concern is that you may loose traffic if people visit the old address after you make that change?

In this case we handle site address changes very seamlessly, so if you switch your site to a custom address, anyone that visits the older “wordpress.com” address will be redirected to the new address. More info about changing your site’s “primary address” here: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/#set-a-primary-address

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
