Domain Transfer and Site Overhaul

    Hi – I’m looking to transfer my current website from GoDaddy to WordPress. When I move the domain registration will this effect my current live site? I’m looking to overhaul my existing site, but am not prepared to redo the whole website yet.

    I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

    Hey there! Transferring the domain won’t hurt the live site. Only changing name servers (before you’re ready) could cause an issue.

    And, you’re welcome to create your new site with us before pointing the domain here. You’ll get a subdomain URL you can work with.

    I do recommend getting a plan earlier on if you’ll need it, since they have other features you might find useful, including direct support:
    https://wordpress.com/plans

    Then just avoid using the domain options until you’re ready — or if you transfer it, just avoid pointing it here til then.
