Domain transfer & Domain Mapping

  • Unknown's avatar

I recently moved my domain to another host and so it was removed from my account. However, when going to this domain (umberly.com) a domain mapping error was shown by wordpress.com and so I had to purchase domain mapping. So now going onto umberly.com it takes me to my wordpress.com site (umberlyamb.wordpress.com)
Why is this even though my domain has been transferred and how do I sort it out?

    Hi there,

Your domain umberly.com is still pointed to WordPress.com because it’s using the WordPress.com name servers:

    • NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    • NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    • NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

As long as your domain has those name servers, it will point to WordPress.com and your WordPress.com site here. Your new host can give you the name servers you need to point your domain to your site there, and they can help you update your domain to make that change.

Since you don’t want your domain to point to WordPress.com, you don’t need that domain mapping upgrade at all. I cancelled it for you and issued a full refund.

Please let me know if I can do anything more to help with that. :)

Hi, thanks for your help but I have just changed my name servers and I am still shown with a domain mapping error by wordpress.com

It can sometimes take up to 72 hours for domain changes to propagate across the internet, so you may not see the effect of that change right away. That’s especially true on a computer where you visited the domain before making the change. Please give it a bit of time and then try again. :)
