Domain Transfer Failed – Domain still with WordPress
-
Hi,
I tried to transfer my domain to a provider in October (prior to its expiry). It appeared as though the transfer went through, however, it was not confirmed for some reason.
I would like to transfer this domain, however, it appears to be stuck with you since it expired. I cannot seem to renew it either.
How can I regain ownership of my domain and proceed with self-hosting WordPress on it with my new provider?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
I can see on 3 October you requested a transfer code, but we never received a transfer request from the new registrar and the domain was locked again on the same day that you requested the code. Did you give the code to the new registrar? That would have started the process and had it failed you’d have received emails from both them and us about it. The fact that the domain was locked again on the same day means you cancelled the transfer again on our end.
That domain expired on 27 October and is now in redemption with our registrar. I will need to email them to restore the domain, but they charge a $80 fee to restore a domain from redemption so I’ll need you to agree to that fee before I can get the process started. Once the domain is restored and renewed you’ll then be able to start a new transfer if you still want to do that.

Hi,
I did provide the code to the new registrar and believed that my transfer was complete (I was even able to install WordPress and start customizing it on their servers).
According to the registrar, the transfer was complete, I just needed to confirm when I received my OpenSRS email (which I never received). I’m not sure what happened or who is responsible for the corrupted transfer.
It sounds like I don’t have much choice but to pay the fee to restore my domain. So please let me know what the next steps will be.
Thanks.

I double checked, and we definitely never received a transfer request from another registrar for that domain after you initiated the transfer from our end. So my best guess is that the request from their side didn’t come through correctly, but without access to their systems I’m not able to say why. It could be there was an error that didn’t generate an error message from our registrar, but there’s no way to tell for sure.
I’ve sent a payment link via email. Once we receive payment I can contact our registrar to restore the domain. If the recovery fails, your payment will be refunded in full.

We’ve received your payment and I’ve emailed our registrar to restore your domain. I’ll let you know as soon as I hear back from them.

Your domain has been restored and is pointed to inmotionhosting.com again, though it looks like you might need to reconnect it to your site again from their end as well.
If you still want to transfer the domain, you should now be able to do so again.

Thank you for your help. Would it be possible to reset the nameservers back to WordPress? In light of the botched transfer, I think I’ll keep the domain with WordPress.
Let me know if you can do it for me or what I should adjust the nameservers to myself.
Thanks again.

Please disregard my last message. I think I figured it out from the DNS menu. Thanks for making it easy.

I can see the name servers are pointing back to us again.
Please let me know if I can help with anything else.
