This account was created recently. What domain are you talking about? You need to have owned a custom domain for 60 days before you can transfer it. Subdomains that end in .wordpress.com can’t be transferred away from here at all.
-
I do not want to transfer a domain at this time. I want to know in case I plan to transfer in the future.
-
?? As I said, free addresses can’t be transferred. If you have/are thinking of having a custom domain here then you need to buy a Personal plan at least. When and if you transfer you’d need a paid account at whatever host you moved to and pay them going forward.

I don’t want to know if free addresses can be transferred, I don’t want to know if paid addresses can be transferred. I want to know if there is a fee applied when I transfer an address to a different register, as the question states.
Some web hosters charge a fee when attempting to transfer a domain name to a different service. I want to know if WordPress does the same.

?? No. But that would be the least of your worries having already paid WordPress.com for a plan (and being outside any refund window by the time you can transfer) and then paying someone else too to host with them. Why not decide where you want to be and build a site there from the start.
This guide explains how to transfer a domain registered with WordPress.com out to another provider (known as a registrar), such as GoDaddy or 1&1. Please note that your domain must be at least 60 days old before you can transfer it away. If it’s a new domain, you can change the name servers instead. There seems to be some confusion about whether or not this question is about gfax5official.wordpress.com, a free site on WordPress.com, or something else. Will you clarify that bit for me please?
Generally speaking, free sites like gfax5official.wordpress.com do not have the ability to edit their DNS records to point to another hosting provider.
If you had a custom domain with us on WordPress.com then you could transfer it to another hosting provider, at any time. You would have to pay that hosting provider for their service and so the cost could vary widely depending on what you choose.
WordPress.com is a managed hosting solution. This means that we handle all the back end details of the site. Things like back ups, updates, security, spam, seo, ssl, mobile optimization, top notch hosting specs, and sorting out any errors or bugs that pop up along the way. When you run a stand alone WordPress installation, with a bargain hosting option, then all of those details fall on to you – so instead of being able to focus on content you spend a ton of time and frustration fixing these sort of issues.
Looking forward to getting this clarified for you. Please write back. Cheers.

Hi, Zinnia.
Thank you for the reply. To clarify, I would like to know what happens if I create my own new domain name (e.g. gfax5.com) using the WordPress site but later decided to transfer gfax5.com to another registrar. Does WordPress charge a fee for me to retain that domain name when I leave? I’ve seen other sites that require some sort of fee to move a domain name that was created using their service.
Thanks!

Hi and thanks for the clarifications. Using your example, if you purchase the
gfax5.comdomain from us, it can be transferred to another registrar 60 days after purchase, if you so choose. The 60 day transfer lock is an ICANN and registrar rule, and not something that we have any control over.We do not charge anything for transferring a domain out to another registrar, but you would need to check with the registrar you are wanting to transfer to to see what sort of fees they have. As was mentioned, that can vary widely.
This support page explains about transferring domains registered through us here at WordPress.com to another registrar.
