Domain transfer help
-
Good morning,
Ok, i am new to website designing. i registered my domain thru another company and then found out about wordpress. I signed up, went to transfer my domain however, it said because its so new it will be July before i can transfer. I clicked on the not wanting to wait and now my domain has wordpress.com at the end. When i complete editing my site and publish it, will that be part of my public domain now, or with the mapping feature does that allow me to still keep my original domain name, the wordpress.com is just a directing feature that will not be public? thanks, hope this made sense. -
Hi there,
Until July, in order to use your domain hosted elsewhere with your WordPress.com site, you’ll need to change the domain nameservers at your domain host, and point them over to WordPress.com. Our nameservers are:
NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
NS3.WORDPRESS.COMThen, you’ll need to purchase the mapping subscription upgrade as a part of a paid plan so that you can map your domain over to your WordPress.com site.
For instructions on both processes, please visit our support page:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/
The
.wordpress.comaddress that you see is a blog address for your site that will forward to your custom domain once you map it over. But, while you do not have the domain attached, that is where people can go to find your site.Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks!
