Domain Transfer Mapping
-
I mapped one of my old websites that used WP to another newer WP site I made. Unfortunately, when we registered the new domain address, we registered it to a non-existent domain, so now our old website is inaccessible.
When we tried to map our domain to the existing domain of the old website (operationfly.org), after we paid $13, it would not redirect us to the newer website.
We canceled the domain mapping and refunded. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m able to get to http://operationfly1.wordpress.com/ just fine. So, are you looking for help to get operationfly.org set up as the mapped domain for http://operationfly1.wordpress.com/? Or am I misunderstanding?
-
so, we originally had a site: http://operationfly.org /
Then we made a new site: http://operationfly1.wordpress.com/ because our old site was out of date and we wanted to make a new fresh blog.
However, we still wanted to keep the domain operationfly.org so we tried to map its domain to operationfly1. Unfortunately, it did not go according to plan…and now operationfly.org seems to be broken, and we’re not sure how to use that domain. So in a nutshell, we are trying to make operationfly.org go to our new website….
Thanks a lot!! -
Okay, so operationfly.org seems to be registered through Godaddy. Its nameservers seem to be pointing to GoDaddy hosting, so did you have your operationfly.org site set up as a self-hosted WordPress site?
-
im not really sure, the site was made a couple years by people i don’t know. we did have operationfly.org registered on godaddy, but we deleted the domain on godaddy because we wanted to get rid of that old site. all we want now is the actual name: “operationfly.org”
-
I think what you probably canceled was your hosting through GoDaddy. It looks like your domain is still registered there. Could you log into your GoDaddy account and check?
-
Hmm, I went onto my GoDaddy account and I went to “visit my account” and then under my domains, it says “You don’t have any domains.”
-
Could you have more than one GoDaddy account? As you can see in the link below, WHOIS is showing operationfly.org as being registered with GoDaddy:
http://whois.domaintools.com/operationfly.org
I suppose it is possible that you canceled operationfly.org and someone else purchased it through godaddy. How long ago do you think you canceled it?
-
-
I think you are going to have to contact GoDaddy and ask them what happened. I simply cannot tell from here since the domain was not registered with us.
Sorry, wish I had more assistance on that. Let me know what they say.

Let me know what you find out if you end up needing additional WordPress.com help with it.

so i fixed the domain mapping problem with godaddy, so now http://www.operationfly.org automatically goes to http://www.operationfly1.wordpress.com
However, I was wondering if it’s possible to get rid of the http://www.operationfly1.wordpress.com URL? For example, when I google “operation fly”, the first result is operationfly1.wordpress.com but I’d prefer if the result URL name read operationfly.org; so would it be possible to not have the wordpress URL show up and have the operationfly.org URL show up intead?

Do you know how often google re-indexes the page? I think it’s been this way for a week or 2 now.
-
That is something that Google tries to keep as secret as possible in my experience. You might take a look at this page to see if any of the suggestions there would hurry things up:
-
so is there anyway to make the URL (operationfly1.wordpress.com) inaccessible? because i’d rather the public go through operationfly.com to access my website than through that one
-
There is not really a way to do that. Should someone (for some reason) enter operationfly1.wordpress.com into their browser, they will be sent to operationfly.com.
