Domain transfer question

  I have created a website on WordPress.com that I will be mapping until the domain hosting expires from its current provider in April 2017. Once this expires, can I re-register the same domain with WordPress.com? If so, how can I make sure not to lose the domain after it expires? Also, there are new owner of this company and they are hoping to update the domain ownership information to their name. Thank you for your help, very appreciated.

  It sounds like you have a domain and would like to use in on one of your WordPress.com sites, is that correct?

  Once this expires, can I re-register the same domain with WordPress.com?

  I would advise not letting the domain expire. When a domain expires there is a risk someone else could register it before you. If that happens you would lose it. Domains are precious! :)

  If you already own the domain and would like to use it on your WordPress.com site, all you need to do is “map” the domain to your site. This can be done with a Domain Mapping upgrade. The process is explained in more detail here:

  Also, there are new owner of this company and they are hoping to update the domain ownership information to their name.

  You would need to speak to your registrar about updating the domain ownership information.

  Yes, that is correct.

  We’ve decided to follow your advice and keep our current registrar, but map the domain via WordPress.com using the Karuna theme. We’ve also updated the owner information.

  I’m working to map http://www.raftingtennessee.com.

  We upgraded to Business Level last night and have made http://www.raftingtennessee.com our primary site, but I still need to “fix” the DNS settings. Do you know how I need to do that? The site’s current provider gave us a code to use, but I’m not sure where to use it.

  I found the documentation about the DNS transfer, … so I will contact the registrar and have them point the domain’s name server to WordPress.com.
