Domain transfer refund
-
Dear WordPress team,
I transferred my domain from shopify to wordpress.com. The transfer wasn’t done yet and I changed my mind so I clicked cancel on shopify. Will I get the money for the transfer back, now that the domain is not going to be transferred?
Thank you

Hi there,
Can you clarify how long ago you canceled your transfer at Shopify? On our end we show the transfer as being in-progress still, though there can be a delay until the systems they use update us as to the status.
The good news is that in any event our payments system will automatically check the transfer status at regular intervals, and refund as soon as we detect the transfer has been cancelled.
In the event that it’s been more than 48 hours since cancelation please let us know and we will try to see what we can find from our end. Thanks!

Hello! Yes it’s been more than 48 hours definitely. Could you try to cancel it from your end? Thank you

Hi there,
We’re still seeing a pending transfer on our end. Whois is also still showing a pendingtransfer status:https://whois.domaintools.com/marquise-watches.com
I would contact Shopify and verify that the transfer has indeed been canceled on their end. Please keep us updated. Thank you! -
Thank you, I already contacted them and it is indeed cancelled on their end. Is there nothing you could do? Maybe cancel it on your end?

It has been cancelled on their end for about 3 days. Should I delete my wordpress account to end it? The only issue is I might not get a refund if I do so I think. I’m kind of in a hurry because I want to transfer it to another provider and I can’t if it is in the progress of another transfer.

It doesn’t look like the domain transfer was canceled at Shopify’s end (we are not able to manage incoming transfers initiated at other registrar), and the transfer was in fact successful. Your domain is now registered with us.
I understand you’ve changed your mind, and you’d like to move the domain to a different host – you will be able to do that in 60 days (this is standard practice, imposed by ICANN). You can still, however, use the domain with a site hosted elsewhere; for that, you will need to adjust the DNS settings:
A domain’s name servers store information about your domain (in the form of “DNS records”) and tell your domain where to look for your website’s content. This guide will show you how to change your domain’s name servers to point to WordPress.com or any other host. We’re happy to help if you’d like to share more about what are your plans for the site.
