Domain transfer request blocked by WordPress

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I’m trying to transfer a domain which was registered through WordPress. The transfer should be done from WordPress- that is the current Registrar – to BlueHost.

The domain is conversasdificeis.com (connected to conversasdificeis.wordpress.com account).

We got the EPP (Authorization Info) from WordPress (through an email we received), used it to start the process on BlueHost, but after I paid the fee (which means, the first step worked), they performed a last permission check on WordPress and it was not liberated.

    Why is this happening?

One last thing. I am one of the administrators for the site under the domain conversasdificeis.com on WordPress. But the Whois administrator for the conversasdificeis.com domains is a partner of mine, Marcia Yakota ((email visible only to moderators and staff)) – which is also an administrator for the WordPress site. Maybe the problem is related to that.

    Please, help.

    thanks
    Andre Moura

    One more information.

I spoke with BlueHost support. They pointed out to me that WHOIS search shows that the domain transfer is set as prohibited (Status: clientTransferProhibited).

They told me to ask WordPress to change this status.

  • The issue is that the WordPress.com user account that you are posting from is not the owner of that upgrade.

Typically this happens because you ended up with a second WordPress.com user account at some point and THAT account is the one that was used to purchase the upgrade. You will need to log into that second account in order to transfer the domain.

    Josh,

Maybe you didn’t read my second comment? Please do, if you didn’t.

I wasn’t logged anywhere when the problem happened.

The process of asking the code for transferring the domain (that demanded a user to log in) was made by the account which did the purchase (Marcia Yakota account). And it occurred without a problem.

The problem happened outside WordPress, when the Bluehost system asked to actualize the transfer – after the first phase of the process, where it used the EPP, with success. (Please, read my second comment).

It seems that what is needed is for you to clear the Prohibited status. Please, can you do that?

  • Let’s see what we can figure out…

It looks like the domain wasn’t unlocked before attempting the transfer. Were you following these instructions:

Transfer a Domain to Another Registrar

    …specifically the screenshot here:

    https://en-support.files.wordpress.com/2012/08/update-settings-and-continue.png?w=688&h=293

    …talking about unlocking the domain.

Can you give the transfer another try and make sure to click the “update settings and continue” button and not the “I just want the transfer code for now” link. I know it is confusing to have both options there when only one will work, but we are required by ICANN to offer the code without unlocking.

Let me know if things work the second time around.

    Josh,

That’a good answer. I’ll try and get back to you
