Domain Transfer results in 403 Forbidden
-
By all indications, my domain transfer was successful. I followed all the given instruction, the ‘DNS Records’ page shows ‘Handled by WordPress.com’ in nearly every position (except a few such as mail and txt). Yet my domain returns ‘403 Forbidden’. I was told by tech support that this is because it can’t be transferred due to “client update prohibited”. Clearly, this is not the case, else the ‘DNS Records’ page would not show ‘Handled by WordPress.com’ in nearly every position.
What is going on??????

Hi there!
Your domain transfer has been successful and everything seems to be in perfect order. Where exactly do you see the error message?
The site loads fine on my end.The
clientTransferProhibitedmessage only means that the domain is locked and would need to be unlocked before transferring again. -
Well, now it is working. But for about a day after the transfer was completed (as indicated by the DNS Records in my control panel) it wasn’t. Go figure.
Thanks.

The changes to DNS records can take up to 24h to propagate, there might have also been some caching going on :)
I’m glad to hear everything works as expected now.

@ fresatomica, the situation wasn’t helped by a WP.com support person giving what appeared then (and still so appears now) to have been bad information.

That would be when I was told by tech support that this problem was because it couldn’t be transferred due to a “client update prohibited” status restriction, even though the ‘DNS Records’ page at that very time showed ‘Handled by WordPress.com’ and the transfer had (apparently) been completed, and that the problem was (likely) a propagation cycle issue.

We’ve followed up with the person who gave you the incorrect information. Sorry about that.
Please let me know if I can help with anything else.
