domain transfer to dreamhost

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi there, thanks for reading this and any help you can provide.

Two weeks ago we went through the process to transfer the domain seniorsskiing.com from wordpress.com to dreamhost. For some as yet unknown reason the transfer didn’t go through first time around. I emailed Dreamhost support and they couldn’t explain it but asked us to resubmit. The domain was unlocked and we had the authorization code and had clicked through on both the dreamhost confirmation link email and the wordpress backend confirmation button.

Anyway I resubmitted and I received a support email from Dreamhost support a few days ago saying it was approved but still the domain hasn’t transferred. Can you help me? This is a time sensitive issue and we need to transfer the domain asap.

    Thanks!

    Alice

    Hi there,

I have accepted the transfer and your domain should be transferred now. Let me know if you find otherwise.

    Cheers!

    Hi there,

The transfer didn’t go through. I got this from dreamhost:

    “Hello,

We are sad to report that your domain registration transfer for seniorsskiing.com
has been rejected by your current registrar! If you’d still like to try and
transfer it to us, please re-submit your transfer request at:

    https://panel.dreamhost.com/?tree=domain.transfer

and be sure to contact the current registrar to make sure they don’t reject
    the transfer this time!

    Thanks!
The Happy DreamHost Domain Registration Transfer Team”

I suspect it is because of the 60 day limit.

So, I tried changing the nameservers to point the site to dreamhost. I edited the page in store/domains and it saved the new dreamhost nameservers. However when I went back to check today it had reverted to the wordpress.com nameservers.

I re-edited the nameservers today and saved them. Took a screenshot with the saved message. Then 5 minutes later I checked and once again my edits were gone and the radio button to use wordpress.com nameservers was selected.

    Frustration!

Next I tried editing the DNS records and adding an A record. I set seniorsskiing.com to map to 173.236.171.150 which is the IP address for the dreamhost server. When I went to save I got the message “This record cannot be added, as it conflicts with an existing WordPress.com record.”

I am very frustrated! I can understand that I might have to wait out the 60 days for the transfer per ICANN rules but I ought to be able to edit the nameservers no?

Please help. This is time sensitive.

    Thanks,

    Alice

    Hi there,

So because of the requested transfer you weren’t able to update the nameservers. Sidenote: Sorry – I completely missed that your domain was under 60 days.

However, since it has been rejected, I have updated your nameservers. Please note that it is not immediate – it can take a couple days for it to update/propagate. If it still has not been updated in a day or two, please reply back as soon as possible, and I will have our team look into it. You can definitely change your nameservers so we will get this sorted out!

    Thanks for your patience!

Thanks so much Grace. I just checked again and the backend UI keeps reverting to the radio button option “Use WordPress.com Name Servers” even after I have selected the use custom nameservers, entered the info and saved. I even get a success message. I’ve been through this process about 12 times now and every time I go back it has reverted to wordpress.com nameservers.

I appreciate your updating them too but I’m not seeing that change either. Can you take another look?

Thanks so much. My client is struggling to understand why this is taking me so long and costing them time/money.

    Best,

    Alice

    Hi Alice,

Unfortunately not at the moment. We are working with our registrar which is taking some time.

    Sorry about this.

    Hi Alice,

I have asked our team for another update. There’s no word yet, but I will get back to you once I hear back.

Sorry about this – unfortunately, there’s not much I can do until then.

Still waiting. It’s now May 14th. Who can I contact at the registrar? This is really unacceptable. I ought to be able to change the nameservers in a timely manner.

    Still hoping you can help.

Hi , First disconnect the domain with wordpress.com that is choose your xyz.wordpress.com as primary . Then after 10 minutes try to update the nameservers . I think that may help you .

We’ve just sent you a verification e-mail to verify the e-mail address on file. Please confirm it, after that you should be able to update the name server records.
