domain transfer to wordpress.com-site

    I`m currently having a free wordpress.com blog. I´d like to transfer an existing domain to this site. I´ve read the support information about this, but there are some question left:
    – I have a domain with .de That is not in the list of the tld, that are excluded from transfer and it is not in the list of the tlds you can register on wordpress. Can I transfer this domain?
    – I have to upgrade my wordpress.com -blog before transfering a domain. Do I have to make this transfer during the update or can I do this anytime later?
    – Does the current url of my blog (example.wordpress.com) still exist after upgrade/after domain transfer?

    Hi @dewitz,

    -For the question of your current domain .de, I have flagged this post for staff attention.
    They are better equipped to answer this question.

    -You will need an upgraded WordPress plan in order to transfer a domain from an external host. Upon successful transfer your domain will be renewed for a year.

    -Yes, the current url of your blog will still exist, and you will have to make the new domain (without .wordpress.com) as the ‘Primary Domain’. Your site traffic will automatically divert from your wordpress.com domain to primary domain.

    Hi dewitz,

    it is not in the list of the tlds you can register on wordpress. Can I transfer this domain?

    We are currently unable to accept incoming transfers for .de domains but they can be connected to a WordPress.com site with domain mapping:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

    Does the current url of my blog (example.wordpress.com) still exist after upgrade/after domain transfer?

    Yes, your free address (example.wordpress.com) will still exist but it will be hidden by the mapped domain. Once this has been set as the primary domain, anyone visiting the free address will be redirected to the mapped domain automatically.
