Domain transfer vs Domain mapping to current provider
-
I am moving my blog from a self-hosted site to WordPress.com. I have successfully imported all the posts, files etc and now need to launch the site. I am not sure whether it would be best to transfer the domain I own from the current provider or to map to that provider.
As yet I have not deleted the old blog, and I am guessing I need to do this before I can either transfer or map the domain – is that correct?Thank you for any replies.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,

It’s totally up to you. You might try mapping and then transferring, if you’d like.

You don’t, actually. Once you point the domain here, the old site will stop working on its own, and you can close out your hosting if or when you’re ready.

Thanks for that information. I thought I needed a plan first, but wasn’t sure so I’ll get the plan set up now.

I upgraded to the Blogger plan, and then began to transfer the domain, but it seems I have to pay again. Is that correct?

The Blogger plan only gives you a .blog domain. To transfer or map a domain you already own would entail purchasing a Personal plan or above.

I’d see if upgrading to the Personal plan would give you the option of just paying the difference between the two prices. -
