Domain transfer vs. Mapping

  I am trying to decide if I should transfer my domain to WP or map it. What is the cost for domain transfer vs. domain mapping? How do I know what domain renewal will be through WP? I know what it will be through my current provider.

  Hi –

  Great question. The biggest benefit of domain transfer over mapping, is that all things related to your site will be in one place. WordPress.com takes over as your domain registrar. It all renews 1x per year, and you get notice ahead of time, about 30 days.

  Neither option is permanent and you can always change it. Don’t fret too much.

  With domain mapping you have to pay for your domain mapping from us each year plus your registration from the current domain provider.

  Both mapping and a transfer are included with the plan pricing. What you’ll do is figure out which plan is best for your project and budget. Those are at https://wordpress.com/plans/ After it is added to the account you’ll set up the domain by clicking on My Sites- Domains- Add. Again, there’s no additional charge at this point because it is included with the plan purchase. It is also refundable for 30 days.
