Domain transfer vs. purchasing through WP?
-
I have a domain registered through InMotion Hosting. I want to use WordPress to host my site. My domain is set to expire in three days, unless I renew for $12. Rather than go through the hassle of a transfer, should I just let it expire and purchase the domain and hosting services through WordPress?

DON’T LET IT EXPIRE!!!! You will be very sorry
WordPress.COM is not set up to accept incoming domain name transfers and letting your domain name expire is bad – it can take around 60 days for a domain name to return to the wild where ANYONE (not just you can purchase it) – the register can also auction off the name or it can be purchased and held hostage by someone
Renew the registration and map the domain name to here –

NOTE: you are not buying hosting here – hosting is always free – you are paying for the domain mapping and will be subject to the same Terms of Service as before

Thanks, auxclass. It’s been a long time since I’ve worked with the back door of any website, and I’m rusty! I’ll get the site renewed and follow the link. Hopefully I can get it figured out.

Fairly straight forward –
But if you have email with your domain name you need to read below and use one of the options to keep the email working

You be welcome & good luck
