Domain Upgrade Questions

I had a few questions regarding the domain upgrade, I searched the FAQs but it was either not explained or vague. Anyways, upon purchasing the 15 credit domain upgrade will I have to upgrade all of the permalinks that were given out, or will they re-direct? What about all of the links on social bookmarketing sites, will those still work? Also when the one year is up, or I want to change hosting will the domain still be mine and will I have the opportunity to say go from a wordpress.COM to a self hosted wordpress.ORG? Lastly besides buying the upgrade will anything else need to be done on my part with my blog?

    Thanks

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    1. It will upgrade/redirect. NAME.wordpress.com will become NAME.com. People accessing your blog at NAME.wordpress.com will automatically get redirected.

    2. Yes, they’ll still work, once they reach your blog the urls will change automatically.

    3. The domain and upgrade is purchased on a year by year basis. If you want to keep it thereafter you’ll have to buy the upgrade again.

    4. Yes, you can take it with you whereever you want.

    5. The domain mapping is really painless. http://support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/domain-management/ explains all the necessary steps and it takes a minute if not less.

    Hope that helps.

Ok, just so I understand. All outside links with the old username.wordpress.com will re-direct to domain.com and all internal links to other posts will do the same?

To clarify about #3 more I meant if I no longer wanted a wordpress.COM site and wanted a different host I could still buy that domain name from lets say godaddy or something or from here and then transfer my blog to a hosted wordpress.ORG account.

I hope that makes sense, Thanks so much for your help the rest was clear and I am glad to hear the process is painless.

About #3 – If you purchase a domain name and the domain mapping from wordpress.com and then choose to host your blog elsewhere, you can either transfer the domain name registration to your new host or leave it with wordpress.com and renew it each year here.

There are no wordpress.org accounts in the sense that you’re using the term.

If you haven’t already read this forum sticky, it will clarify the difference between wp.com and wp.org.

Thanks ellaella that was what I was wondering. I understood wordpress.org but I guess account was the wrong word to use. Anyways thanks for the clarification.

    Was my other understanding correct?
