Domain Upgrade Transferability
-
So, I found an amazing domain (IMO anyway, most other people wouldn’t find it that cool), and want to start a wordpress.com blog for it. However, I’m not quite ready to devote the time it takes to set up another blog at the moment, so I wanted to register it to my current blog ( http://leifandersen.net ), which is not on wordpress.com, although the domain is linked to a wordpress.com blog, and http://leifandersen.wordpress.com is an old version of the website. So, I wanted to buy the domain, for my leifandersen wordpress.com blog, and eventually transfer it to it’s own blog. Is that possible, or do I have to register it to it’s own blog initially if I want it to point to it’s own wordpress.com blog?
Does that make any sense? (Sorry, it’s a bit late here, and I’m tired…).
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes, it’s entirely possible. The only thing is, I don’t think you can move a site within 60 days of registering the domain. After that, it’s fine.

You can change the DNS settings (point it to a different host), but you cannot transfer the domain name to a different registrar for 60 days as I understand it.
Of course I could be wrong on that.

Erm…that’s not what I meant. Say, I buy the domain upgrade for leifandersen.wordpress.com, giving me to domains for that website, leifandersen.net and mynewdomain.com, now I create another wordpress.com website, mydomain.wordpress.com, can I transfer the upgrade to the new blog, or will I need to pay the $15 to re-upgrade it? (Okay, maybe $10, because I won’t have to re-register it).
Thanks. :)

@thesacredpath: Woops, look like we were going at the same time. :)
Thank you @thesacredpath. You’re right, you can’t change the registrar for 60 days. Although that’s not what I care about, I just want to point it to another website. Thanks. :)

The domain mapping upgrades are per blog. It would be better to create the new blog and then go through the domain mapping for that particular blog.
As far as pointing the existing domain to a different blog, staff has done that in the past for people, so you need to talk with them directly on that. Make sure and give them clear details on what you want to do.

Ah, I see better now. You wanted to map TWO custom domains to one WP.com blog. TSP is right, just register another blog and map it to that.
