Domain with www prefix
-
Hello, my website santifranescoechiara.com is showing without the www prefix. I already activated Google Webmaster Tools and set the www version as preferred domain but it won’t change and is still showing without www on all search engines.
How can I change that?
Thank you

Your domain, http://www.santifranescoechiara.com, will always be redirected to http://santifrancescoechiara.com/.
Follow the instructions in our FAQ to verify your site with Google:

Thank you so much for your answer! I still cannot understand the reason why my domain will always be redirected to the non-www domain :(
Also, I would like the domain to be indexed by google with the www prefix but this ain’t happening :(

We actually strip out the “www.” for your convenience, so http://www.example.com will automatically be redirected to example.com.
www is an old protocol from back when everything was under separate server hardware. www (www.example.com) was the web server, mail (mail.example.com) was the mail server, ftp (ftp.example.com) was the FTP server, print (print.example.com) was the print server, etc.
These days, everything is run under the web server, making www. redundant and a waste of four characters. Plus, Google prefers to have a single URL to index in its search results, and not using www is the preferred way to do that.
WordPress.com automatically sends notifications to Google with every post and page update. The search engines can take 4-6 weeks or more to add any new sites. For more information about WordPress.com and Search Engines, please see http://support.wordpress.com/search-engines/ .
I hope that clarifies things!
