Domain? WP vs. Blue Host
-
Hello, I am wondering what the differences are. For one thing I know I have a free plan but I cannot get another hosting/domain (I think?) through Blue Host right now, mainly because my site is a WordPress site, I am not sure what to do and or if I need to pay for a WordPress website in order to utilize Blue Host? Can you please explain? Dumb it down for me :-) Thank you!

Hello there,
Happy to help you with this.
Ok, so there are two type of WordPress.
1. WordPress.com – this is where your site is hosted on WordPress.com and you get access to to certain features, depending on what plan the site is on. These features can be seen here: https://wordpress.com/pricing/#lpc-pricing
2. Self hosted WordPress – this is where the free WordPress software is downloaded from WordPress.org and installed onto a hosting provider (Bluehost for example).
The two are considered separate to each other. This guide here explains on the pros and cons of using each type of WordPress.com – https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
I cannot get another hosting/domain (I think?)
If you’re using WordPress.com for your site, you would not need additional hosting from a third party and vice versa.
If you’ve purchased a domain from another provider, this can be used through the power of domain mapping. Domain mapping is where you configure a domain to point to another set of servers. (i.e. a domain registered at Bluehost > would point and show a site on WordPress.com).
Please see how domain mapping would be set up here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
I hope this helps!
