domaine mapping/cost
-
one of my blog has a domaine mapping that cost only $13 a year. I’ve just created a second blog and wanted to do another domaine mapping to an existing site (as I aim to transfer from Blogspot to Worldpress, but the cost is $93?
Is the only way forward for new blogs, or am I doing something wrong?

Domains are no longer available for purchase or mapping individually. They are included with WordPress.com Premium. This change has been made as we work to offer the best combination of value and performance for users while still offering a completely free product for those who do not wish to purchase any upgrades.
A great way to go if you are not interested in WordPress.com Premium is to look into setting up a self-hosted WordPress.org site through a hosting provider such as Bluehost, GoDaddy, or Pressable.

Thanks for clarifying Rootjosh. because I already have a domaine name set up for many years, I’m really trying to find a solution that allows me to keep it. It looks like WordPress premium might just be the only solution then, even if $80 a year seems a bit stiff for just the domaine mapping that I need.

You’re not actually locked into staying with WordPress.com even though your domain is currently hosted there. There’s a guide that walks you through transferring your site from WordPress.com to a self-hosted site, which also includes details on how to transfer your domain name.

Thanks Mikestraw. My blog is actually currently on Blogspot and then mapped to the existing domaine name. But I find blogspot very limiting in term of design, especially for an art site like mine, which is why I wanted to move to WordPress and its reacher content.
Are you suggesting I :
1. transfer from blogspot to wordpress all the site’s content?
2. then transfer the WordPress back again to the self-hosted site (on which the blogspot is hosted). -ie move.wordpress
Isn’t that double tracking in a way?

Sorry, I thought you were currently hosted on WordPress.com, but if you’re currently on Blogspot, you can just transfer from Blogspot directly to a self-hosted WordPress.org site like rootjosh suggested.
Is your Blogspot site hosted on Blogspot itself or do you currently have a self-hosted version through another provider? If that’s the case you can just set up a WordPress site there and when you’re done, make that the site that comes up for your domain name. If it’s hosted on Blogspot, you’ll need to find a new provider that will let you install a WordPress site (like Bluehost, GoDaddy, or Pressable). Set up a WordPress site there and when you’re done, switch the domain to point there.

thanks Mikestraw. I think I’m getting there. The domain name is on GoDaddy. So I think i get I need to go there and then link it to the new wordPress instead of the old blogspot.. But how do I make sure that then the new wordpress does have all the content of the old blogspot? because I don’t want to loose 5 years of traffic. Thanks!

WordPress has an import from Blogger function built in. You’ll find it in the Tools menu on the Dashboard.
