  I need to add my personal domain name, why do I have to purchase ‘mydomain.wordpress.com

  Hi there!

  The .wordpress.com subdomain is free and you’ll need to register one for your site. After that, you can map or register a custom domain and if set as primary, nobody will see the subdomain anymore.
