Domain/Hosting Questions
-
I am working as an intern at a hair studio and we are looking into updating our website. In looking at the outdated coding of the previous webpage I decided WordPress would be the best option in building a completely new site. We are currently hosting our website and email through DreamHost and our domain is through Name Cheap. We are basically wanting to start from scratch on building a new page so there’s no need to transfer content but we do need to keep our current domain name. We are wondering two different things and after many days of scouring the internet I haven’t been able to find a clear answer.
First we would like to know if we change our domain to WordPress would we still have to pay DreamHost for hosting? I understand we would still pay Name Cheap and WordPress.
Second If we change our domain to WordPress, and delete the old page, is there anyway we can keep the email address that matches our domain name?
Thank you so muchThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hey there! Welcome to WordPress.com :)
First we would like to know if we change our domain to WordPress would we still have to pay DreamHost for hosting? I understand we would still pay Name Cheap and WordPress.
As long as your domain stays at NameCheap, and your website is hosted here at WordPress.com, you wouldn’t have to continue hosting with DreamHost. In order to “point” your domain to your WordPress.com site, you’d use domain mapping:
We can help with this when the time comes, should questions arise!
Second If we change our domain to WordPress, and delete the old page, is there anyway we can keep the email address that matches our domain name?
Absolutely. Here are the instructions for adding your existing email address to your mapping here at WordPress.com:
I hope this helps! If you have any other concerns, drop me a note. Thanks much!
