Domains

I want to use tinamclark.co.uk to create my site but it keeps telling me I can’t because it is already mapped to a WordPress.com site. I know that it used to be but I don’t think I have access to the site anymore and wanted to start a new. Can you help me?

Hi there,
There is already a domain mapping upgrade for that domain that belongs to another username. If it was you who bought it you need to log in as that username to renew or cancel the domain mapping.
If you no longer have access to the old account, you can try our account recovery steps outlined here:
-
I tried to do the account recovery but it would not let me as it says the website no longer exists. In 123reg which is where I got my domain it says that tinamclark.co.uk is in parking. I have cancelled any forwarding on the domain and I am now waiting the 24 hours it always seems to take them to do anything. If this does not work I am not sure what my next step will be I can only think that the problem lies with wordpress. I really hope this can be resolved as I really want to use the domain again.
Any help would be much appreciated!

123reg is your domain registrar. You pay them for ownership of the domain. If the domain is in parking with them, that’s something you need to sort out with them as we don’t control where your domain is pointing, they do.
To connect the domain from your registrar to a WordPress.com site you need a domain mapping upgrade, but any domain can only be mapped to one WordPress.com site at a time. The domain, tnamclark.co.uk is already mapped to a WordPress.com site that belongs to a different username and I cannot remove an upgrade that belongs to someone else without their consent.
If you don’t remember the username you used to buy the domain mapping upgrade or the URL of the site to which it’s connected (and it’s definitely connected to a site that currently exists as it’s impossible to delete a site with upgrades) there isn’t much I’m able to do. Your best option in that case is to wait for the expired upgrade to be removed from the site, at which time you’ll be able to add a new domain mapping upgrade with this account.

I know that the domain is mapped to a site that belonged to me. I was asked to prove that the I was the owner of the domain and prove that i had it mapped to the wordpress site which I did. It still would not do the recovery as it said the wordpress site no longer existed. I just kept going round in circles. It has been over a year now and this is now becoming ridiculous. How much longer am I expected to wait. Is there anything I would have had from wordpress that would have my old user name on it?

This is when it expired.

Great posts worth seeing from Tina M Clark: -
I have just found an old user name, so I am going to see if I can remember the password and see if I can access the old account.

What WordPress.com address did you type in? tinamclark.wordpress.com still exists, so the form should accept it if you type in that address.
However, it looks like our system removed the expired upgrade since last I posted here, so you should be able to map that same domain via a different account now. I still recommend you try to regain access to the other username, as it’s the only user that has access to the site, tinamclark.wordpress.com, meaning it’s the only way you’ll be able to make any changes to that site again.

OK really starting to get to the end of my tether with this. I am at that ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh moment. It is driving me crazy. I tried again to map the domain tinamclark.co.uk as from what you said I should be able to now. I could not access my old account as no matter what I did it appears nothing of it no longer exists. So fine I thought just start afresh. Apparently not as I cannot not map the domain still now when I try to it just does nothing but stay on step 4 of mapping an already existing domain. I even tried to use another browser in case something was wrong. I have been trying to sort this out now for almost 3 weeks which is a ridiculous amount of time to waste on this. I just want to get sorted and I think there should be something better available in order to do that other than a forum. So what now?

On what WordPress.com address do you want to map that domain?
Our system isn’t allowing a mapping to be added for that domain for some reason, but I can try to add it for you manually if I know on which site you want to use it.
-
Hello again. Not sure what information you need in order to sort this out. The site is tinamclark.co.uk the name is Tina M Clark I need to direct the domain from 113reg to the site. Can you let me know what you need?

I have found info under urlm.co.uk if that helps?
Peer 1 dedicated hosting Georgia Atlanta using ngnix web server tinamclark.co.UK server IP number is 66.155.9.138 encoding utf-8. Ping (76.74.254.120) 56(84). You probably have this info already but I just thought I would include it just in case. -
The site is tinamclark.co.uk
That is the domain. I need the URL of the WordPress.com site to which you are trying to map that domain, in other words, *.wordpress.com
The account you’re posting as here does not own any *.wordpress.com site, which is why I’m unable to help you. Site ownership and upgrade ownership is connected to usernames on WordPress.com, and your username does not own anything.
The domain, tinamclark.co.uk, was mapped to the site, tinamclark.wordpress.com, but that site belongs to a different username than the one you’re using to post here. If you don’t remember the username you’d used for that site, and/or you don’t remember the password, your only option is to try and regain access via the account recovery form.
I cannot give you information that will help you log into the other account under any circumstances, and I cannot add, change or remove upgrades on another account under any circumstances unless you request it via the username for that account.
Where your domain itself is registered is irrelevant. The issue here is with accessing the correct WordPress.com site with the correct username, so you can add a mapping upgrade to connect the domain from this side.

Holy crap I did it. Yeahhhhh! I have actually sent a recovery form. Then five minutes after finally found my user name and password for my old account. Am I alright having two accounts, or should I shut the new one down? So relieved it’s unreal. Feel like I have been on crazy trip for the last month. Sorry for the off load of emotion, but it has been one hell of a ride. That’s for not getting ratty with me.

Yay! I’m glad to hear you managed to get back into the account. Sorry if I didn’t explain it clearly enough the first time I replied.
It’s up to you whether you want to keep both accounts active. Just make a note of which username owns/manages which sites and upgrades, and which username is connected to which email address.
